About

What is Natural Blacksmithing

Natural blacksmithing is a philosophical- pedagogic still highly practical approach developed by Ukrainian blacksmith and ecologist Bogdan Popov. It  aims to reconnect people with nature  through blacksmithing  practice in its ancient original form by blending it with modern ecological values.  The approach is  grounded in the teachings of the 18th-century Ukrainian philosopher and pedagogue Hryhoriy Skovoroda.

It  emphasizes simplicity, mobility, minimalism and creation of beautiful and efficient tools made by ancient designs with little energy input and using  sustainable resources.

A core tenet of natural blacksmithing is its use as an educational tool, offering practical demonstrations that explore nature and human history while attracting audiences through the blacksmithing process.. Additionally, the practice serves as a powerful medium for restoring and improving both mental and physical well-being especially for people with traumatic experience (post war and other)

The approach is extremely interactive and practical , empowering  people to start practicing blacksmithing in a simple and sustainable way, practically anywhere with minimum space,  equipment  and energy required   and produce tools, art objects  etc.
